Gołąbki – Polish Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Description

Traditional Polish dish consisting of cabbage leaves filled with a savory mixture of minced meat and rice, served with a delicious tomato sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 large head of white cabbage
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 500g minced meat (pork or beef)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups tomato sauce

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully place the whole cabbage head into the water for a few minutes until the leaves are pliable.
  2. Remove the outer leaves and set them aside to cool.
  3. In a bowl, combine the minced meat, cooked rice, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  4. Take each cabbage leaf and place a spoonful of filling at the base, then roll tightly and tuck the sides in.
  5. Place the rolled gołąbki in a pot and cover with tomato sauce.
  6. Simmer on low heat for about 60 minutes until cooked through.

Notes

Gołąbki can be frozen. Make sure to cool them down before packaging and cover with sauce to preserve flavor.
